This book does not exist yet. This item is to sponsor me writing it.
Ebook sponsors will be publicly thanked on a “Trusties” section in the back of the electronic versions of FreeBSD Mastery: Jails by Michael W Lucas. They will also receive a free copy of the completed ebook in epub, mobi, and PDF, all DRM-free. Because DRM is stupid.
I’ve been planning to write this book for years now. Jails involve a lot of storage, though, so I pretty much had to write the other FreeBSD Mastery titles as prologues.
About the book:
FreeBSD’s lightweight virtualization system, jails, was one of the first virtualization systems. Many years later, they’ve grown into a full-featured tool for separating services on a single host. Many newer virtualization systems lack many jail features and can’t compete on performance.
With FreeBSD Mastery, Jails, you’ll learn to:
• configure hosts to support jails
• manage jails from within the jail and from the host
• handle packages and upgrades en masse
• run many jails on one filesystem
• deploy hierarchical jails
• control inter-jail networking
• jail old versions of FreeBSD
• run Linux in a jail
• and more!
How much more? Depends on what I learn as I get into the book.
Depending on the amount of material I develop, I might do a second jails book. Ebook sponsors of this book will have the option to sponsor the second book at a reduced rate. Those who sponsor both will be declared “Gulag Trusties.” But it’ll depend on how things work out, and how complex the book is.
My overriding goal, as always, is to provide the most bang for the reader’s buck.
